PennLive, 10/03/23: “Angel Maldonado has spent 12 years of his life in a cell alone. Three of those years were spent inside an 80-square-foot cell in a specially designated unit at the State Correctional Institution Fayette.
Before he went in, he suffered from anxiety and depression. But now, he suffers from auditory hallucinations, an inability to sleep or concentrate, and has attempted to take his life by swallowing 30 pills, according to a lawsuit.
The unit where he ended up, called the Security Threat Group Management Unit, is where inmates are transferred from across the state after they are designated as part of a ‘Security Threat Group.'”
