In partnership with Palestinian organizations and advocates, ALC is conducting investigations into non-state actors, such as corporations, who are aiding and abetting genocide, apartheid, and war crimes in Palestine. ALC will continue our investigations (that commenced in the fall of 2023) into U.S.-based non-state and corporate actors who are fueling Israel’s crimes against Palestinian people. Additionally, ALC will pursue international and domestic coordination with partners to push out public pressure and advocacy campaigns alongside its investigations.

Microsoft’s Aiding of Israel’s Genocide Against Palestinians Exposes Company and its Leadership to Legal Liability

On December 2, 2025 Abolitionist Law Center was joined by an international organization of legal and advocacy rights groups – Avaaz Foundation, European Legal Support Center, Centre for Research on multinational corporations (SOMO), Center for Constitutional Rights, Ekō, and GLAN (Global Legal Action Network) – in providing notice to Microsoft Corporation and its executive leadership of its potential legal liability for aiding and abetting atrocity crimes committed by Israel against the Palestinian population of Gaza.

Sent just days before the company’s Annual General Meeting, the letter outlines the intimate relationship between Microsoft and the Israeli military, and the significant role the company has played in advancing, and even accelerating, Israel’s genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity against the Palestinian people of Gaza. In doing so, Microsoft, its leadership, and its individual officers are exposing themselves to criminal and civil liability for serious violations of international and U.S. domestic law.

Abolitionist Law Center Reports to UN: Amazon and Google Complicit in Israel’s Genocide and Apartheid against Palestinians

On December 3, 2024, the Abolitionist Law Center published its submission to the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territory, responding to the Special Rapporteur’s call for input on the involvement of the private sector in the commission of international crimes connected to Israel’s genocide, unlawful occupation, racial segregation and apartheid regime in the occupied Palestinian territory. The submission details the roles of Amazon.com, Inc., and Google LLC, especially each company’s respective cloud division (Amazon Web Services, or AWS, and Google Cloud), in aiding and abetting the Israeli government’s crimes.

In response to requests from Afghan journalists, activists, community members and their allies, ALC has launched a multi-faceted advocacy intervention informed by impacted community members, and rooted in narrative-shifting, storytelling, community empowerment, and public education, to combat the U.S.’s export of its violent detention practices to states abroad. Specifically, ALC’s campaign  investigates and documents the arbitrary detention of thousands of Afghan refugees who, following U.S. evacuation efforts from Afghanistan, were detained at U.S.-facilitated or -coordinated sites such as those in the UAE, Qatar, Kosovo, Germany, and Italy. ALC will use this intervention to challenge and disrupt the national security framework within which the U.S. rationalizes state violence, contributing to building movements that can effectively counter and overcome the false pretexts that disguise human rights violations. Human rights frameworks have been powerful tools in fighting issues ALC has long been involved in dismantling, including death by incarceration and solitary confinement in the United States. Expanding the use of this framework will equip impacted communities and advocates with tools that challenge the legitimacy and normalization of state violence. By incorporating international human rights law analyses to ALC’s already-existing domestic work, ALC increases the legal and political arenas in which we challenge rights violations, and equip our movement partners with the infrastructure to do the same and strategically move toward a horizon where human rights protections are the basis of social justice.

Sadaf Doost  is ALC’s Human Rights Program Manager. An Afghan-American human rights attorney, Sadaf recently completed her Justice Fellowship at the Center for Constitutional Rights in October 2024. In recent years, Sadaf has worked on supporting the Afghan people in the wake of the Taliban takeover in Havlish v. Taliban – Frozen Afghan Assets, challenging genocide and war crimes in Defense for Children International-Palestine v. Biden, and challenging the unlawful detentions at Guantánamo Bay in Duran v. Trump, modern day slavery and forced prison labor in Stanley v. Ivey, and environmental racism in the U.S. South in Inclusive Louisiana v. St. James Parish. Prior to joining the Center for Constitutional Rights, Sadaf worked at Refugees International, as well as with Afghan and Syrian refugees abroad, including in Greece. She also co-founded Global Advocates for Afghanistan, an Afghan-led movement committed to protecting and promoting the human rights of Afghans on an international scale, and served as a legal advocacy intern on the National Security and Police Practices Team at the ACLU of Southern California. Sadaf received a B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley, with a focus on Global Poverty and Practice and a J.D. from the University of California, Irvine, School of Law, where she was an International Law Fellow at the Center on Globalization, Law, and Society, a Berkeley Human Rights Center Fellow, and a student attorney at the International Justice and Civil Rights Litigation Clinics working on litigation and legal advocacy efforts against state-sponsored and corporate human rights abuses in China, government surveillance, torture and police brutality, climate injustice, and discrimination against Muslims. Sadaf has appeared on Democracy Now!, Los Angeles Times, Bloomberg Law News, The Intercept, and The Independent, among other international and national news and media outlets.
