April 29: Coalition to Abolish Death by Incarceration Spring Rally
Monday, Apr. 29, 2024 | 1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.
East Wing of the Pennsylvania State Capitol Building
500 Commonwealth Ave., Harrisburg, PA
Our commonwealth has the second-highest number of people sentenced to life without parole. Nearly 5,100 Pennsylvanians are serving a death-by-incarceration (DBI) sentence.
DBI sentences have nothing to do with public safety or justice.
- PA requires automatic DBI sentences for many cases that don’t warrant a life sentence.
- Those who’ve served long sentences almost never pose a public threat.
- Incarcerating people to death makes no moral or economic sense.
This rally will be your chance to push for second chances in Pennsylvania.
Together we will bring the presence of incarcerated loved ones into the capitol, and show our elected officials that our loved ones are more than people sentenced to die in prison and that our commonwealth is more than DBI sentencing.
Join ALC’s political organizing arm, Straight Ahead, the Coalition to Abolish Death by Incarceration, and hundreds of people from across Pennsylvania in demanding an end to death-by-incarceration sentencing, also known as “life without parole”. This action is part of a growing movement seeking to end the practice of sentencing people to die in prison with no opportunity for release.
