Louis Jung Family Statement
Louis Jung Jr., a father of three sons, and a grandfather, is a victim of the Philadelphia Department of Prisons.
Louie grew up in Philadelphia. He was the type of guy that would give you the shirt off his back. He was funny and could spark up a conversation with anyone. He would buy lunch for the homeless who lived under the bridge, even though he also dealt with some not pleasant issues himself, unfortunately.
Last year, Louie was transported from a mental health hospital to the worst jail, CFCF (Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility) for only 11 days while awaiting a court date to an incident where he was under a diabetic reaction and mental health issues. In that short amount of time they killed him. He had diabetes and simply needed to receive his insulin, which the prison failed to provide him for six full days.
Imagine being locked up and the people who are hired and get paid to provide health care fail to provide life-sustaining medication. We cannot wrap our heads around letting someone lay there suffering to die. We want to let everyone know how inhumane this whole situation is. No one else should have to go through what his three sons, heartbroken mother, brother, sisters, and entire family are going through. It has made us all look at this whole world differently.
We are filing this lawsuit to demand justice for the father of three boys, the eldest of which is completely physically disabled and dependent on assistance to meet his daily needs. It is absolutely clear that the jails are not safe, and “according to our government, everyone should receive healthcare.” For the prison who killed him, we have a message: “God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.
Now three sons are left with shattered hearts because their father will never get to see anything they accomplish because the Philadelphia Department of Prisons killed him.
