Since early January, ALC along with our allies and activists across the commonwealth have been supporting the commutation application of our client Marie “Mechie” Scott.

Last week, Mechie got one step closer to freedom when she received all five Board of Pardons votes in the merit review of her commutation application. She can now proceed to a public hearing on whether the Board should commute her death-by-incarceration sentence so she can be released. That hearing will be in May.

Mechie is 71, battling cancer, and has been incarcerated for more than half a century already. It is time for this beloved mentor, mother, and community member to come home.

The coming weeks will be very stressful for Mechie and the outcome uncertain, so we’re asking you to send a quick note to Mechie to buck up her spirits.
