Jun. 12: Philly’s Budget Should Be About Us
June 10, 2025
Thursday, June 12, 2025 | 9:30 a.m.
City Hall, Room 400
1400 John F. Kennedy Blvd., Philadelphia, PA
Last week, City Council voted yes on the first passage of the city budget. The budget that passed is not only uninspiring but harmful to our communities, which rely on city services every day and whose insufficient resources leave them vulnerable to violence, over-policing, and arrest. With looming threats from the federal government, this budget fails to meet the moment that we are in.
This Thursday, City Council will vote on the final budget for FY26. JOIN ALC and other members of the Fund the People Coalition, along with the Alliance for a Just Philadelphia to tell Council: This budget is a bad deal for Philadelphia!
At a time when the Trump administration is targeting Philadelphia for its sanctuary status, gutting funding for essential services and institutions, and criminalizing those who stand up against genocide and fascism, we need our local leadership to STAND UP AND BE ABOUT US!
It’s going to take ALL OF US to keep the pressure on City Council until a final budget is passed. There’s a lot on the line — funding for safe healthy homes, worker protections, public spaces, mental health care, immigrant support programs, schools, and more.
Here’s how YOU can let Council know what you think of the budget:
- Sign up to testify at the final budget vote
- Call 215-686-3406 by 3pm on Wed. 6/11. Give them you first and last name, your phone number, and tell them you want to testify on the proposed budget on June 12
- You can also sign up in person on Thursday in Council Chambers!
- Join us at the final budget vote!
- Meet us at 9:30am on the 4th floor by Council Chambers, Room 400!
- Wear your blue Budget shirt if you have one!
Tell Council how you feel about their choice to:
Green light 13 years of steep business tax giveaways that will gut city funding
Dismiss budget increases for immigrant community resources, worker protections, mental health, education, and proactive rental inspections
Keep our essential public services deeply underfunded
Dedicate nearly 30% of the budget to carceral systems
There’s still time to make our voices heard & demand a People’s Budget for Philly!
