Allegheny County Jail Officer Suspended Amid Investigation Into Racist Video

Hoodline: “Allegheny County Jail is currently investigating one of its own, Corrections Officer Brian Davis, after he was depicted in a viral social media video, wielding a baseball bat ringed with barbed wire and emitting racist taunts. CBS News Pittsburgh reported the incident, sharing details of the video, which captured Davis using the N-word in tandem with the weapon he referred to as a ‘[N-word] beater.’ None of the accounts clarifies whether the video was filmed during Davis’s tenure at the jail or the exact date it was recorded.

The county jail’s spokesperson stated, The ACJ administration, from Warden Wingard down, expects professionalism from all jail employees. The jail does not tolerate racist or abusive language or behavior, WTAE reports. The suspension aims to thoroughly investigate the matter, which has spurred a strong reaction from the community and local officials alike.

Tanisha Long of the Abolitionist Law Center in Pittsburgh strongly expressed that He needs to go. He needs to do some soul-searching and figure out what it is about Black people that he does not like. In her interview with CBS News Pittsburgh, she also emphasized the urgency for the jail to move fast in addressing the matter, underscoring the gravity of having a “devoutly, openly and violently racist” individual in a position of authority at the jail.”
