Feb. 24: Don’t Believe Everything You Read
February 05, 2026
Saturday, February 28, 2026 | 3:30 – 5:30 p.m.
915 Spring Garden St., Philadelphia, PA
Join us for a community discussion with Lu Randall, executive director of the Autism Connection of PA, that examines how autistic and disabled people become entangled in the legal system and how disability-related behaviors are routinely misunderstood, mischaracterized, and punished as criminal intent.
Through storytelling and real-world examples—some that appear damning “on paper” but reveal something very different when examined closely—the conversation surfaces actual realities behind court records, evaluations, and case summaries. Participants will explore how communication differences, sensory environments, stigma, and courtroom power dynamics—including rapid questioning, legal jargon, sarcasm, and lack of explanation—shape outcomes for disabled people, with specific attention to experiences in Allegheny County.
Open to community members, advocates, court watchers, legal professionals, and students, this workshop invites attendees to slow down, look deeper, and question what they think they know—because ALC Court Watch challenges the belief that something becomes true, fair, or just simply because the court wrote it down.
