Is there another chance for women sentenced to prison for life?
April 28, 2026
The Philadelphia Sunday Sun: “A second chance can sometimes lead to a whole new life.
Participants in ‘Dying on the Inside: Women Lifers at Muncy Prison,’ a podcast launch and panel discussion hosted by WHYY’s Cherri Gregg, stressed that point. Held on April 22 at WHYY, the event marked the start of a five-part investigative podcast exploring the human, financial, and policy implications of a rapidly aging prison population.
Dr. Deborah Cai, acting dean of Temple University’s Klein College of Media and Communication, made the opening remarks, emphasizing the humanity of incarcerated people.
Panelists included Noah Barth, director of prison monitoring with the Pennsylvania Prison Society, an organization that serves as a resource for people in prison and their families; State Rep. Andre Carroll (D-201st. Dist.), a member of the Pennsylvania House Judiciary Committee; Dannielle Hadley, a former lifer at Muncy Prison, a facility in north-central Pennsylvania; and Rupalee Rashatwar, an attorney with the Abolitionist Law Center, a nonprofit working to abolish mass incarceration and systemic carceral violence.
‘Dying on the Inside’ began in April, designated as Second Chance Month — a national initiative to honor the potential of people with criminal records.
‘The podcast gives a voice to a marginalized group,’ Gregg said.”
