Fordham Law News: “The Abolitionist Law Center, where Sanaa Akindele ’28 JD is interning this summer, is a non-profit law firm based in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia that supports litigation on behalf of people who have faced human rights and other abuses, often through the prison system. Akindele says that she’s learning not just legal research, but the interpersonal skills needed to become a successful lawyer.

What is your hometown?

I was born in Chicago, but raised in Lagos, Nigeria.

Where are you interning this summer?

This summer, I have a remote internship with the Abolitionist Law Center (ALC), an advocacy nonprofit based in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, where I attended Carnegie Mellon University as an undergraduate.

What are you doing in this role?

I am a legal intern, and my work involves researching many of the legal issues that arise in the landmark cases ALC handles. My days involve a lot of research into Pennsylvania and international law. I also have the opportunity to participate in meetings discussing legal strategy, interview experts who help us better advocate for our clients, and draft legal memoranda.”
