Any information you transmit unilaterally to ALC, before you have formal discussions with an ALC lawyer about forming an attorney-client relationship or actually engaging an ALC lawyer as your attorney, is not privileged or confidential and may be obtained and used by a person or entity whose interests are adverse to yours. If you register for an ALC event, join an ALC mailing list, make a donation to ALC, or otherwise register for an ALC action or activity, you provide us information about yourself, such as your name, email address, surface mail address, and phone number, and you will be added to ALC’s email and/or surface mailing lists to receive occasional correspondence from us related to our work. Except as described in this Privacy Policy, ALC does not share information about non-donors who are subscribed to ALC’s email or surface mailing lists.

Information fields on event registration forms, donations forms, and similar places, are indicated as “optional” if you are not required to share that information to complete the activity or transaction.

If you correspond with us by email, we may retain the content of your email messages, your email address, and our responses.

For visitors to our website, we may, but generally do not, log standard technical information, such as the IP address of the computer you are using; the browser software you use; and the internet address of the website from which you linked directly to our site. Circumstances in which we may temporarily log standard technical information include conducting site testing, diagnosis of technical problems, and defending against attacks on the site.

On occasion, ALC may exchange donor mailing lists (surface mailing lists consisting of names and addresses of our current donors), with other, similar organizations that are value-aligned and working towards similar goals. This is a commonplace practice and gives people who care about and support the mission of a given organization, an opportunity to learn about similar work done by other, value-aligned organizations in the same ecosystem which they may want to support as well.

When ALC engages in donor lists exchanges, it is for a specifically identified, one-time use only. No donor names or addresses are retained by ALC or by the recipient organizations except for those individuals who make new donations.

ALC does not share any donor information other than names and surface mail addresses.

Anyone who is subscribed to ALC’s surface mail or email list may opt out of those lists at any time. All mass emails from ALC contain an “unsubscribe” link in the footer at the bottom of the message —clicking that link will remove you from ALC’s email list.

You may also unsubscribe from our email or surface mail list if you email info@alcenter.org with an “unsubscribe from mailing list” request, or if you mail an unsubscribe request to ALC at PO Box 8654, Pittsburgh, PA, 15221.

Any ALC donor can opt out of ALC’s donor list exchange by emailing a “don’t share name” request to development@alcenter.org; by marking the “don’t share name” (or similar) box on ALC’s donation materials mailed back to us; or by contacting ALC by surface mail at PO Box 8654, Pittsburgh, PA, 15221 with a “don’t share name” request.

ALC is required to disclose certain donor information to the IRS. Aside from those mandatory IRS disclosures, and as otherwise described in this Privacy Policy, ALC will not disclose personal donor information to any third party unless required to do so by law or subpoena or if we believe that such action is necessary to (a) conform to the law, comply with legal process served on us or our affiliates, or investigate, prevent, or take action regarding suspected or actual illegal activities; (b) to enforce this policy, take precautions against liability, to investigate and defend ourselves against any third-party claims or allegations, to assist government enforcement agencies, or to protect the security or integrity of our site; and (c) to exercise or protect the rights, property, or personal safety of ALC, our users, or others.

If we are required by law to disclose the information that you have submitted, we will attempt to provide you with notice (unless we are prohibited) that a request for your information has been made in order to give you an opportunity to object to the disclosure. We will attempt to provide this notice by email, if you have given us an email address, or by postal mail if you have entered a postal address. If you do not challenge the disclosure request, we may be legally required to turn over your information. In addition, we will independently object to requests for access to information about users of our site that we believe to be improper.

ALC cares about the integrity and security of your personal information. We cannot, however, ensure or warrant the security of any information you transmit to ALC or guarantee that your information may not be accessed, disclosed, altered, or destroyed by breach of any of our physical, technical, or managerial safeguards. ALC is not responsible for the functionality or security measures of any third party.

In the event that personal information is compromised as a result of a breach of security, ALC will promptly notify those persons whose personal information has been compromised, in accordance with the notification procedures set forth in this Privacy Policy, or as otherwise required by applicable law.

This site may contain links to other internet resources. These links are provided to you only as a convenience and are not under ALC control. ALC is not responsible for the contents of any linked site, or any link contained in a linked site.

ALC uses the EveryAction platform (aka Bonterra) to organize and communicate with our community of supporters, donors, and other contacts. When you visit the ALC website, or the EveryAction donation forms, event registration forms, and other forms ALC uses to manage our donations, activities and contacts, ALC’s website or EveryAction may send one or more cookies — a small text file containing a string of alphanumeric characters — to your computer that uniquely identifies your browser and lets you complete future transactions more quickly.

A cookie does not collect personal information about you. A persistent cookie remains on your hard drive after you close your browser. Persistent cookies may be used by your browser on subsequent visits to the site. Persistent cookies can be removed by following your web browser’s directions. A session cookie is temporary and disappears after you close your browser. You can reset your web browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent. Protecting the privacy of young children is especially important. For that reason, ALC does not knowingly collect or solicit personal information from anyone under the age of 13 or knowingly allow such persons to donate, join our mailing lists, or register for events. If you are under 13, please do not send any information about yourself to us, including your name, address, telephone number, or email address. No one under age 13 is allowed to provide any personal information to ALC. In the event that we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under age 13 without verification of parental consent, we will delete that information as quickly as possible. If you believe that we might have any information from or about a child under 13, please contact us at info@alcenter.org.

If we change our privacy policies and procedures, we will post those changes on the ALC website to keep you aware of what information we collect, how we use it and under what circumstances we may disclose it. Changes to this Privacy Policy are effective when they are posted on this page.
